Venture Grants

The Venture Grant program is designed to provide funds for teachers to implement innovative and creative educational ideas. Examples of Venture Grants include Artists in Residence programs, educational field trips, science equipment, and the purchasing of world musical instruments. Since 1990, Lancaster Education Foundation has given over $800,000 to teachers through this program. Apply for Grant (doc).

Horizon Grants

The Horizon Grants are a new opportunity with a focus on professional development for SDoL teachers. These grants allow teachers to enrich their teaching knowledge and practice by providing funding for participation in educational opportunities out of the local area. Horizon Grants are funded through the proceeds from the “Are You Smarter” event and came out of requests from teacher focus groups. Apply for Grant (doc)

Adopt an SDOL Classroom

This program is an opportunity for individuals, businesses, or groups to contribute $250 to “adopt” a district classroom. The $250 will be given to the teacher to purchase items needed to enrich the classroom environment. The donor has the option of selecting a specific classroom or just specifying a certain age group. Adopt a Classroom (doc).

Scholarships

The Lancaster Education Foundation holds 30 scholarships, representing principal of over $360,000 for students pursuing higher education after high school. To learn more about establishing a scholarship, please contact the Lancaster Education Foundation office at (717) 391-8660.

Museum School

The Museum School, located at Carter and MacRae Elementary School, offers students the opportunity to experience what school was like in 1853. Students are greeted by a teacher dressed in 1853 clothes who then proceeds to take them back in time and instruct them in the manner of children of that period. This is a wonderful hands on enrichment opportunity for second and third grade children, both in the SDoL and surrounding Districts, to enhance their study of the history of our community.
