Our Programs

LEF’s programs help to ensure that our students have the resources and supplies they need to prevent a further divide in the achievement gap. These programs help us continue to advance our mission, which is to promote student success and teaching excellence.

Adopt-an-SDoL-Classroom

This program is an opportunity for individuals, businesses, or groups to contribute $250 (or more) to “adopt” a district classroom. The $250 will be given to the teacher to purchase items needed to enrich the classroom environment. The donor has the option of selecting a specific classroom, a certain age group or subject matter.

Dual Enrollment

The School District of Lancaster is the only district in the county that covers the cost of students’ college courses. Students can take one college course per semester at no cost as long as they meet a few basic requirements and can still meet their general McCaskey graduation requirements.

Hooked on Books

Hooked on Books provides a new book to every second-grader in the School District of Lancaster each month of the school year. Books are selected in conjunction with the second grade curriculum and are given to the students to take home for their personal library.

Museum School

The Museum School, located at Carter and MacRae Elementary School, offers students the opportunity to experience what school was in the 19th Century. Students are greeted by a teacher dressed in period clothing who takes them back in time and instructs them in the manner of that era. This is a wonderful hands-on enrichment opportunity for second and third grade children, both in the SDoL and surrounding Districts, to enhance their study of the history of our community.

Scholarships

Each year we offer nearly $80,000 in scholarships for McCaskey High School Seniors. Awards are presented for Arts, Sciences, Languages, Athletics and more.

Venture Grants

The Venture Grant program is designed to provide funds for teachers to implement innovative and creative educational ideas. Examples of Venture Grants include Artists in Residence programs, educational field trips, science equipment, and the purchasing of world musical instruments. Since 1990, Lancaster Education Foundation has given over $800,000 to teachers through this program.
